Patients | Reimbursement

More than 8,000 medications are covered by the public drug insurance plan. They are included in a regularly updated list.

The exceptional medication measure (Médicament d’exception) allows the entire population to obtain coverage for certain medications. For each of the exceptional medications, the indications recognized for their payment are grouped together in an appendix to the list of medications. The periodic update of this list may result in the addition or removal of exceptional medications or changes to the indications recognized for their payment.

To obtain authorization for an exceptional medication, an insured person must obtain prior authorization from the RAMQ. To do this, a payment authorization request must be submitted by an authorized prescriber.

For a medication not included in the list of medications, you can use the Payment Authorization Request – Exception Patient forms (Patient d’exception).
